Today I was contacted by Alex, author of a neat little freeware tool called Little Navmap! Little Navmap is a free open source flight planner, navigation tool, moving map, airport search and airport information system. Its most current version 1.6.3 adds support for X-Plane 11. See what this freeware gem has to offer:

“A widely configurable map display using the OpenStreetMap as a background map which is only one option of many online and included offline maps. The map shows airports, navaids, airways, airspaces, AI or multiplayer aircraft and ships. A seamlessly integrated airport diagram displays taxiways, displaced thresholds, overrun areas, aprons, parking spots and more.

It supports approach and departure procedures like SIDs and STARs, offers several automatic flight plan calculation options and multiple export formats like GFP, GPX, RTE, FLP and FMS as well as drag and drop flight plan editing on the map. The program can read the PLN, FMS and FLP flight plan formats.

An elevation profile is shown for the flight plan allowing to find a safe cruise altitude.

Search functionality allows to look for airports, navaids or procedures by a large amount of criteria also including a spatial search.

The program can generate an ATS route string from flight plans and vice versa where the output is widely configurable.”

Little Navmap seems to be one of those must-haves every simmer should at least try! I am downloading now! Try Little Navmap for free, available directly from the project’s website here.

Will give it a try!

Tryed. Plan-G is now gathering dust. Was surprized by functionality and how fast it imported all navdata. Great app!

An update was released which fixes several problems loading X-Plane databases:

Yup, have made the switch from Plan-G and it takes a little while for the interface to sink in and find where everything is. Works great with my XP11 and P3Dv4
